About This Blog

The specific purpose of this blog is to chronicle a year of Sundays, or more precisely, to record my thoughts regarding what I intend to be weekly visits to fifty-two different Christian Churches over the course of a single calendar year. I have specifically chosen 2012 because it is a presidential election year, and I have a personal interest in the interaction between religion and politics in America.

I am an atheist, and my understanding of faith, religion, and worship are, at best, hypothetical. Experiencing these things first hand is something that I hope will bring me a better understanding of the breadth and depth of Christianity as it is practiced in twenty-first century America. At the moment, realizing that visiting fifty-two houses of worship would be barely scratching the surface of faith in America, and because my own family’s faith tradition is Christian, my plans are to limit my visits to Christian Churches only. We’ll see how that goes.

I invite everyone to read and participate in my journey. Comments will be moderated in order to maintain civility; there are far too many places on the internet today where one can experience angry discourse between nonbelievers and believers alike. I have already participated in more than my share of that noise. Start your journey here.

Welcome.
